Bill Burns
Head of advisory board
Bill Burns
Bill Burns is on the board of governors at the Wellcome Trust, the board of directors of Mesoblast, Shire, Vestergaard Frandsen and chairman of Masters Pharmaceuticals. He is also a member of Chugai International advisory board and a member of the scientific advisory board of the Center for Integrated Oncology at University Hospital Cologne. He served as chief executive officer of Roche Pharmaceuticals until 2010 and as a member of the Roche board of directors until 2013.

Alastair Kent OBE
Alastair Kent OBE is the chair of Rare Disease UK (RDUK), the national alliance for people with rare diseases and all who support them. Alastair has also served as director of Genetic Alliance UK, a national charity supporting all those affected by genetic conditions and an alliance of over 180 patient organisations. Alastair has worked in the field of genetic and rare disease healthcare for over 20 years. He represents the interests of patients on numerous platforms; as president of the European Genetic Alliances Network (EGAN), immediate past chair of the European Platform for Patient Organisations, Science and Industry (EPPOSI) and the EU Committee of Experts on Rare Diseases, among others. He has previously been a member of the Orphan Medicinal Products Committee and Committee for Advanced Therapies at the European Medicines Agency, and of the Human Genetics Commission.

Joel Haspel
Joel advises Raremark on its system architecture. He is currently a Principal at GE Healthcare Finnamore. He has a wealth of experience working with the NHS, life science organizations and hospitals around the world on their technology transformation, solution design and delivery. Joel's areas of healthcare expertise include enterprise architecture, business intelligence, big data, translational research, precision medicine, IoT and mobile healthcare.

Pam Garside
Pam specializes in organizational strategy and development in healthcare, and is a fellow of the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge. Pam founded and co-chairs The Cambridge Health Network, a membership group of senior players in UK health, in both the private and public sector. In 2016, Pam was named one of the 100 most influential leaders in health tech by Hot Topics.

Julie Walters

Julie Walters
Julie Walters, founder, is the driving force behind Raremark. She has a first-class degree in molecular genetics from King’s College London and a background in popular journalism, before combining her skills to drive change in health. She is an entrepreneur by nature and believes in harnessing the power of families affected by rare disease.
She is the winner of multiple awards, including Female Entrepreneur of the Year at the UK’s 2017 Enterprise Awards. Outside Raremark, Julie serves as a trustee of the rare disease patient group www.findacure.org.uk

Peter Coë, co-founder and content director, has been with the company from the outset. He has more than three decades’ experience in communications, originally as a reporter, editor and presenter for TV-am, the BBC and Sky News, and has led complex healthcare programmes in multiple languages and countries since 2007.

Pete Chan, head of research & analysis, is responsible for authoring publications based on data and insights derived from Raremark’s patient communities. Pete has previously served as an editor for the pharmaceutical industry’s news and analysis service Scrip Intelligence.

Alex Garner, product owner, is responsible for the up-keep and future development of Raremark’s digital real-estate. He discovered a passion for building health-tech products from over five years of implementing and designing digital applications for the NHS. Along with a master’s degree in business management and innovation, Alex is a firm believer in the principles of user-centric design and constant learning.

Matteo Baratella, lead user interface developer, is the technical link between creative and back-end developers. Over the past two decades, Matteo has worked at companies such as Visa, 02, TopGear, Harrods and Shortlist.com. Matteo has experience in technical support, web project management, web design and front-end development.

Ripan Kumar, lead backend developer, is a full stack developer with extensive experience in Ruby on Rails and AngularJS who loves exploring new tools and technologies. Ripan has ownership across all back-end functionality and he is responsible for developing all server-side logic, ensuring a high-performance, scalable and secure system. Ripan works closely with engineering, creative and marketing teams to deliver software solutions of the highest quality.
